It's A Steaming Quirky Fairy!

Hi guys, Time for another Quirky Crafts Challenge. Last one of 2011! This time it's Cazzy's turn to set the theme and she has chosen...

Christmas or New Year
SteamPunk!
This time we're sponsored by Stitchy Bear Stamps! All the team were given some of their fabulous digi's to play with, and I chose the Steampunk Fairy. which you'll find in the Delicious Doodles section!
Definition from Wilkpedia
-Steampunk: is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually Victorian era Britain or "Wild West"-era United States—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology includes such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the contemporary authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld and China Mieville.etc...
So, there you go! Think of films such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Wild Wild West, (with Will Smith) The Golden Compass, the new look Sherlock Holmes even, something back in time, but using modern, or sometimes bizarre machinery and you should be on the right track...I think!
Now I know loads of you out there can do SteamPunk amazingly, I've seen it! Not having all the Tim Holtz inks and other 'stuff', did in my view, hindered me a bit, but in the end I'm quite pleased with my Fairy.
I've used freebie papers from (I'm sure) Scrapgirls from wwwway back. I hoped they would take the place of 'distressing, tearing and inking'. I copied the Fairy into My Craft Studio, thinking at first to use her with a clear background, but that didn't work. Near enough everything faded into the paper, so left her as she was, but did turn the SteamPunk corner into a clear background PGN and slipped that over the background paper, copied to make the four corners. Added the sentiment and then printed out three more Fairies so I could do some decoupage. She has 'metal wings' so those definitely shouted out to be 3D-ed!
I coloured her only using grey Promarkers on the front of the card. Cool Grey (skin) and Ice Grey 2, 3, and 4. I did touch the insert fairy with cool grey 4 but felt it too dark, then added Pastel Blue to her hair on the inside.
Once all that was printed out, coloured, and put together I started thinking it wasn't 'punky' or steamy enough. So used my new Memory Box 'Frosty Border',(with the middle missing. If I'd had cogs I would have used cogs! That's a hint for anyone in my family!) in black and began adding black and gold peel offs. So I guess that was my bit of 'Christmas'. My one disappointment is I used that Stick IT silicone glue without realising it was the one I used on my Back to Skool Mole card, which nearly ruined it ...I think it's a faulty tube, as it's cloudy and a bit oily, hopefully you can't notice the dark mark on her arm and dress where it seeped through the (160gsm) paper, and I really didn't want to start all over again! The 5x5 greenish metallic card I used, came in one of those DoCraft Goodie Bags a few Christmas's ago.
The Font on the front of the card is called Spiderfingers and you can download it HERE
The Font inside the card is called Trinigan FG (A SteamPunk font) and you can down load that HERE
I've added a tiny bit of micro glitter to the Fairy's wings and just touched some of the little cogs with a metallic Gelly Roll pen.
ScrapGirls have some nice scrap pages to buy and I found some freebies HERE
That's it for now I think. Pop over to Quirky Crafts to see what everyone on the team's come up with and have a go! That's it for now, thanks for stopping by!
