John's Birthday Card, finished At Last! + Up Date Link to freebie Papers

This is Hubby/John's Birthday card. Flowers? Gnomes? A mice? No! Well, yes but below is the back of the card, in my potting shed, which he built for me. His workshop/garage (far too small for a car to fit in!) shares a wall, this is my side of the wall  outside in the garden where the potty shed is.... and... above is inside his garage...

... where John keeps all his tools and bikes and things. The tall red tool box, with it's drawers and pull down lid, was  my inspiration for the card. So I've added, wires, gas bottles, cogs,  nuts, bolts, saws, hammers,  scissors and goggles. The card tells a story. John's spent the best part of the last eighteen months rebuilding his dad's (and Uncle's old bike) which, he rescued from a field some thirty odd years ago and stored in the little shed attached to his Office (Man Cave) where it stayed. It was covered in rust and rat poo...in the artical he wrote for a motorbike magazine he said mice, thinking they sounded far cuter than rats!

He always wanted to rebuild the bike but years passed and every time he looked at it, the task seemed an impossible one! And then we had a pandemic and lockdown happened. That became the perfect time! He took pictures of the bike's slow recovery and wrote an artical for a members only bike magazine where it was published. It was a bit like "Trevor's Broom" as so much of the bike was just rust!  But he finshed it!

John off for a day trip around The Isle of Wight.
When I first made the card it had a BIG mouse on it, but it didn't look right, then.... my Lawn Fawn order arrived, so I whipped off the big mouse and added lots of little mice from the Bubbles of Joy set and they were just perfect. I even managed to fix a thread from the rag to the little mouse's paw!

And on the other side, made it look like the little mouse was having a drink from the dripping watering can. To go with this, I've also made a bench card, which I'll add later.

This type of card is called a Chalk Board Card, although I have added lots of things around the bottom so you can't really see the legs and because it was double sided I didn't make the window box stick out. The idea came from Sam Calcott, her YouTube Tutorial is here

Well, I hope you liked it and will have a go at making one too! Hoping to add this to a few challenges later. Thank you for stopping by!

PS Forgot. Because I couldn't write inside or on the back of the card, I downloaded a freebie Bike and turned that into a pull out card that just fits inside. To download this decoupage bike and 96 freebie Debbie Moore papers go to Crafts Beautiful. You may have to sign in.
