In the words of the 'Move'..."Blackberry Way, absolutely pouring down with rain, it's a terrible day..." No, actually is wasn't raining, is was quite sunny! But now I've got that song in my head, so I thought you might like it too! We (me and him indoors) went blackberry picking...thinking it was a bit early for blackberries, we only took a little sandwich bag each but ended up picking three and a half pounds in about forty minutes. The bags were bursting, blackberry juice was running everywhere! So now I'm hunting for a Blackberry Jam or Jelly recipe. Does any body out there have a tried and tested one?? Picking more later so should have loads! Happy Weekend!!

Mmmmm yummy, we picked blackberries yesterday and the day before without ever leaving the house. We have lots of blackberries that encroach on the garden from the forrest. So far I have used some to make muffins and eaten some as they are so sweet and juicy. Yesterdays ones I put into the freezer and will make jam when i have more to add and also want to make some pies or crumbles for the freezer too
ReplyDeleteIf you find a good jam recipe perhaps ou could share it pleeeeeease
Hugs Jackie x

ReplyDeleteI'mno help with a recipe Lyn, sorry! Wanted to say - how come you're only an hour down the road and didn't experience the TORRENTS of rain that we've had today then? However, glad you didn't - lovely blackberries MRs!!
ReplyDeletesorry not got a receipe but they look yummy,x
ReplyDeleteI throw them in the freezer ... shaking them as they are just freezing to keep them seperate ...that way I can grab a handful for a pie or crumble to go with apples. I know I have a recipe somewhere for any soft fruit and apple but not bramble alone.
ReplyDeletemmmmn! Blackberry and apple crumble! I could just eat that now!
ReplyDeleteTry BBC they usually have some good recipes, however, I could scan some recipes and e-mail over to you tomorrow if that will help?!
You are right about them being early tho, we used to pick them in the last week of school holidays when I were a lass. And a few years ago I can remember picking them in September. Who knows when we will pick them next year!!
Ummmm...if I was visiting you would not have enough of those babies left for any type of jam!
ReplyDeleteHi Lyn, I love that song, ah reminds me of my youth! :-(
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding a good jam recipe - we made some great stuff in Domestic Science (that's what it was called when I was at school!) including the best shortbread I've ever had and scrummy bread, but I was off when they made jam - not that I've got any of the recipes anyway.
Anne xx
Hello Lynn, I'm running so late on WOYWW that I decided to look at all your recent posts as well and oh, those, blackberries look delicious. We call them brambles where I come from and my late mum made the best bramble jelly ever. Unfortunately, she didn't leave a recipe so can't help here. However, she did leave a recipe for mint chutney that might interest you if you find yourself with a glut of mint this year. Elizabeth x #73
