What's on your WorkDesk, Wednesday?

Good morning all you woywwers! Is it Wednesday already? This is my bench after three cards... Every Tuesday Hubby reminds me and asks What's On Your Workdesk? in his cherpy voice and sometimes very annoyingly asks if I'm going to 'tidy up first' coz he knows I'm always late getting my post ready. He sez he's a blogger widower. They say, if you can't beat them, join them. So he took pictures of his work bench the other week... but chickened out and didn't post it, in fact he hasn't posted for ages.
So, here's my desk this Wednesday, I was looking for something, forgotten what... and here's Hubbies, and he says I'm messy! Ok, I win! After all, his is in the garage...but it's still a work desk of sorts... a very oily one! Note, there's TV remote on his bench...we have a telly in the garage too! (but it's far too small to fit the car into... er... I mean the garage is too small to fit the car into, not the telly...)
Just sign in over on Julia's Stamping Ground and come and join in. It's the only way to see well over a hundred crafty places and one garage! have a great day! Thank you for stopping by!!

Sympathy and A Remembered Western Saddle

I've only ever made two sympathy cards, this one and one other for John's Uncle Ron. That one was black and white too but without the ribbon.
The lady who's died I met a very long time ago. I was about twelve or thirteen. My friend and I (both pony mad) were entering into the local carnival as a cowboy and Indian. We'd arranged to hire two ponies from the local riding school for the day. (yep they let us do that back then!!) My friend wanted to dress her pony in a real western saddle. We'd seen this lady with a pretty pony and this lovely western saddle. So egged on by my friend we both knocked on her door a week before the carnival and asked to borrow it! Can you believe the nerve of us!! Asking a stranger such a thing! Very kindly she said, the saddle didn't belong to her but gave us an address. We called in on this address and after knocking on the door, we were waved at by two giggling girls, a little younger than us, from an upstairs window, saying their parents were somewhere in the garden having a party. After wondering around the overgrown grounds of this house for almost an hour we came across a man, who my friend bravely asked about the saddle. Me? I was puzzle why the man was wearing make-up, eye liner and bright blue eye shadow and kept my distance! It seemed the saddle had been made for a Shetland pony, so would be too small. So disappointed, the following weekend we entered the carnival, me as the Indian, because I was used to riding bareback, my hired pony dressed in feathers and patterned blankets, me, bare foot, a brown leather look top, a bow and arrows and 'war paint' and my friend as the cowboy. I won a prize but unfortunately my friend didn't, blaming the fact that she didn't have a western saddle.
I lost touch with my friend. Years later, I rented the field right next door to the Lady with the Western saddle. I had my own ponies now. She had three daughters, the two youngest about seven and ten, would sometimes venture out into the field, and soon started 'helping' me brush my ponies. More years past and I found myself working for the man in the blue eye make up and I met the Shetland pony who wore that western saddle! His daughters and his wife owned a saddlery store...Round about the same time...the first lady with the western Saddle had divorced her hubby. John's mum and dad had parted too. The lady with the western saddle married John's dad and her hubby married John's mum! Strange how things work out. John's dad died many years ago and the lady with the western saddle married again and we lost touch but it's her who this card is for. And my memories of her are very hot summers days, the dust blowing up as my ponies cantered towards me, her two youngest girls waving across the field from their garden, (two of her three girls now have grandchildren!) the smell of freshly cut grass drying in the field...and the thought of that western saddle.
The verse inside reads,

Although no words can help,

To ease the loss you bear,

Just know that you are in

Our every thought and prayer.

It just proves life is one big puzzle and we have to find all the pieces to make the picture. And this has been a Quirky clue...Thanks for stopping by.

It's Hot Hot Hot!

...and believe it or not, it is, all be it a little breezy! I made this card for Pikes PlayGround Challenge, (with a few other's in mind too!) and as usual I forgot to get it posted! but!! as I've said before, luckily it's still yesterday over in USA so there's just a few hours left to join in.
I've used two of Dustin's images with my own background and coloured with Promarkers, fixed it onto a pearl card and coloured round that too. (ProMarkers don't bleed through pearl card) Added three bright buttons and a sentiment, made on the computer. The font is called Gretoon Highlight and you can download it for free HERE where you'll get two fonts, one without the white detail.
That's it for now, thank you for stopping by!

A Flash Back For Friday

Flash back Friday's Challenge this time round is 'First Non-Traditional Shaped Card'
Well, I've had a look out the back, and hope this one counts. It was first posted here in February 2009. No comments as not a soul came visiting back then! Bad pictures, I'm afraid, as I hadn't been blogging long, I'd never heard of challenges!
I used a Penny Black stamped image (a r.a.k image) and Pink Petticoat Papers, cut the card into an odd shape, layered it up with other odd shapes, coloured the 3D hedgehog pink with...Whispers! (only had two Promarkers back then! magenta and red!) then added acetate to 'square' the card up again. The tiny little swirly dots are from peel-off waste bits.
The Freebie font is called 215000Euro and you can down load it here. It looks like it's on a slight curve so I may have done it in WordArt and coloured it pink on the computer.

More Football Crazy Cards

Last week I was asked to make a football card for a neighbour, her instructions were, "It has to have a football on it!" Ohooo, what shall I do!?? thought me. I'm not a football fan, hubby's not, (but son in law Tom, is) so I didn't have anything foot-bally up my sleeve or on my computer!
The card I made first with the stuff that I did have and the card the lady bought, is HERE with links to the freebie papers and freebie fonts if you missed them.
Just to give my neighbour a choice I decided to downloaded some football decoupage sheets from CraftsUprint, and here are three of them.
Very easy cards to make, very reasonable and I got a freebie too! (well, one came via email, I'm not sure why!) I printed all these cards onto glossy Photo paper, cut them out, suck all the pieces where they should go and added them to my own card stock and hey-presto...some nice cards. Not my normal thing, but hey, it's nice to know there's always something somewhere that will fill the gap if you need to make something very quickly!
So now I've got three football cards going spare! (and four more sheets) Looks like Tom's birthday is all fixed up for at least the next three years!!
New Followers! Hi and a big (((wave))) to Teresa Arsenault from Tickell Expressions and out the back and in the dark is Ellen Bennet with no link.
Thanks for stopping by!

It's Time For WoYwW Again.

Welcome to WOYWW. And to those who still have no idea what this is, where have you been!?! It's the master mind of Julia and her Stamping Ground, hop over and join in!!
Here's my desk this Wednesday... not as messy as it usually is, as I've taken great care to disguise the clutter!
For those of you who saw my Iceland map the other week, it raised £75 for charity. (Yay!) I now have to make another one, exactly the same, for the people who didn't win it, which is why I'm sorting out some of the doodles I did before.
Also on my desk are a few cards I made for someone who wanted a football card, not my normal style, but nice and quick to make and no thinking involved!! (The card they loved and bought, is here)
A long shot of my other desk...nothing much going on there! (I've hidden the first freebie doodle I did as it looked a bit...odd) **Added just for just for Doon, "it was a Teddy, dressed as a Santa...with a sleigh that looked like a very bent shopping trolley!!")
As usual, I'm not here, so this is on timer, and I will call in and see you as soon as I can!!
I've added this weeks freebie to this post again as I'm very lazy and it's very late!! Hope you like it....Bye for now!!!

This Week's Wednesday Freebie.
Sorry You missed this one...please click on the new side bar Picture for the latest freebie!

I'm rubbish at drawing people ever since my finger bent and stayed bent and has developed a mind of it's own, which you'd think, with my small brain, would be very useful!! I might swap her later in the week for something else! (an old tire, a bad banana)
Please don't share my

Foot Ball Crazy...with Freebie Papers.

I was asked last week by a neighbour, Monica, to make a football card for her nephew. "Anything with a football on it, he's football mad." she told me. Of course my small brain immediately, for some reason, saw Monica's nephew as a child, not thinking at all that Monica is in her nineties and her nephew is no way a child!
I've done this before, when working as a riding instructor many years ago, a lady phoned to book a ride for her two grandchildren, so two little ponies where put by called Trigger and Daisy, only when the 'grandchildren' arrived (two strapping 6 footers in their forties) we had to quickly swap them for two much larger hunters called Cherokee and Tomahawk!
Anyway, while still 'thinking child' I made this card, using these fun freebie download papers and toppers from PaperCraft Inspirations Magazine.
I cut the card down slightly, so the papers would fit and so that I could add acetate to the front to show off both the patterned papers.
Then, suddenly realising Monica's nephew would be 60 this birthday. I didn't have anything else 'football-ish' so I downloaded a few football printables from CardsUPrint, to give Monica a choice. (I'll show you those later)
The little footballer guy on the front I fixed on using my X-shaped create a sticker thingy (no longer available from Create and Craft it appears) so I didn't have to use wet glue or double sided tape that might show on the other side of the acetate.
The font I used inside the card is a freebie too. It's called Candy Buzz BTN. Download it free HERE, but some sites do charge for it.
In the end Monica did choose this card, she said it was such fun and that her nephew would love it! and guess what? She also chose one other card~the FISHING card from last Sunday's post, "Because he loves fishing too" which is odd, and very physic, coz I'd already added the sentiments 'Another Big One', meaning a big 0 birthday and put the fishing card into a challenge as a 60th birthday card... Hmmm, very strange... but don't ask me for this weeks lottery numbers!!
**Update. Monica's nephew loved the card and he will most likely frame it! And...I've made the card again but with a slightly different inside. The free font this time is called IdolWild and you can download it HERE
